I rented it from Netflix and absolutely loved it. It is an enactment of the lives of Monet, Renoir, Manet, Cezanne, Degas, and other Impressionist painters living at that time around Paris. Fascinating and eye-opening!

I had this cheery, red visitor in my yard. Cardinals are impossible to resist in any setting or season! The cherry and gold framing is included in the price of this painting, since it’s so difficult to find nice oval frames that can fit a particular painting! For these framed bird portraits, I cut the panels to fit the frames before I painted them!

This stunning Blackburnian Warbler showed up during a birdwalk this summer. I was lucky enough to get a great photo of him to use as a reference for this painting. I am loving these little birdies in the cherry/gold, oval frames!

Hermit Thrush and Her Dandelion, framed

SAMSUNG CSC

7×5″ painting, oil on panel, framed in cherry/gold as shown. (Frame adds about 2″ in height and width.)

$180.00 plus $13 shipping and insurance within the Continental United States. For local sales, shipping charge will be allocated to NYS Sales Tax. Please email me at JamieWG@aol.com for International purchases or with any questions.

This adorable Hermit Thrush was posing next to our driveway when my husband and I went out for a walk. I stopped to take pictures, and she gave me a bunch of poses, turning so that I could photograph her from every angle! She was the cutest and most cooperative bird model I ever encountered. I’m sure I’ll be doing more paintings of her!

I cut the Ampersand panels for the bird paintings into ovals with a scroll saw, to fit these cherry and gold, oval frames. The oval shape seems to suit these bird portraits perfectly. I didn’t think anybody would be able to find frames to fit, so selling them already framed makes the most sense, and means that it’s ready to hang on your wall right out of the box.

His Eye is on the Sparrow 600v

7×5″ oil painting in a cherry and gold, oval wood frame
SOLD! Please email me at JamieWG@aol.com to inquire about a similar painting.

I’ve been wanting to do a series of bird paintings for such a long time! I bought a new camera with a long telephoto lens to get some good images to work with, and some beautiful, wood frames in cherry with a gold inner lip. Since it’s so difficult to get oval frames to fit, I figured I’d sell these already framed.

This first one is an Eastern Phoebe who has taken up residence under the gutter outside my kitchen window. The cute couple has a nest resting on a downspout there. This little guy is out there posing for me all the time. This one sold before I even had a chance to put it up here on my website, but there will be more to come soon if you’ve fallen in love with him.

If you think you’re having a deja vu moment, this painting is similar to the one I posted last week! I took a series of photos of the Great Blue Heron in my yard. Here he is in a more upright pose, and it is a more detailed and refined painting. This painting is all done in shades of blue. This Great Blue Heron usually sticks around for the whole winter. I took a bunch of photos of him from my kitchen window, and painted him in a palette of cool winter blues, huddled against the cold. The painting developed a few small ripples in the process of wet-mounting the paper to a board after the painting was completed. With the painting hanging on the wall, you have to really look carefully to be able to even see them. With that disclosure, I am offering The Big Chill at a huge discount of more than 50%. In spite of the minor flaw, the painting is beautiful and is totally archival. It is varnished to be framed without glass, like an oil painting.

This huge bobcat came to visit us several times during the winter! I set up my telephoto lens so that I’d be ready for him, and managed to capture a few good shots for photo references. It was a brutal winter for wildlife — so cold that our creek froze over a couple of times, which hardly ever happens. Apparently the bobcat found it easier to walk along the ice than through the deep snow. I saw him a few times cruising the brook like this, perhaps in search of ducks or geese, or whatever else he could find in that brutal weather.

This little Hooded Merganser was hanging around on the brook from time to time this winter. I watched and photographed him from the kitchen window, along with a visiting bobcat, and hoped the little guy wouldn’t become “dinner”. It was a terrible winter to be a duck in the northeast. Even our brook froze over for days at a time, which almost never happens. I’m hoping spring is finally on the way. I can’t wait to get out for some plein air painting again!

This little hummingbird visits my feeder in the summer. I named him Henri after Henri Matisse. I’ve been wanting to paint him ever since I snapped this photo last summer. I loved the reflected red light from the feeder on his chest. It’s been so cold here in the northeastern U.S. that I figured it was time for some warm summer memories, and did this painting of Henri.

I still have room in my schedule for a couple more holiday commissions, so please email me at JamieWG@aol.com if you’d like to order a landscape painting or pet portrait as a holiday gift for that Special Someone!

This painting is a commission just off the easel. I was so thrilled to receive the photo from this client of her dog in an action scene! It enabled me to put together my love of painting water with my love of painting animals. I also felt that the image displays much more personality than a typical pet-sitting-on-the-soft portrait. Sadly, this sweet dog, Maggie, passed away last year. The client wanted a holiday painting for her husband, done from his favorite photo of Maggie. This was the result, and she is thrilled.

A few weeks ago, my friend Melissa came over early in the morning, and we painted beside the brook that runs behind my house. The warm colors of the creek contrasted with the cool greens of foliage. Just as I was almost finished, one of our resident swans came sailing over to check us out. I popped him into my painting before he swam around the bend, and he gave the perfect title to the piece. We saw lots of bird activity that morning; several warblers visited along with a Great Blue Heron, and a deer suddenly splashed across the brook, startling us! The wood duck box up on the tree on the right has housed everything from wood ducks to Screech Owls over the years. We’re never really sure what’s in there at any given time!

There aren’t many things in this world cuter than my studio mascot, Mango, taking his morning bath. I found this bright green bathtub for him years ago. The color matches him exactly, and seeing him splash around with the color-coordinated rubber ducky looking on is always a fun start to the day. Camera shy as Mango is, I managed to catch some photos of him during bath time, and I’ve been looking forward to painting this for a long time. He’s been supervising the completion of his portrait here in the studio!

My husband and I rented a rowboat over the summer at North South Lake. As we were rounding a bend in the lake, we spooked this Great Blue Heron. I managed to capture a quick photo of him just as he was about to take flight. In looking through my images the other day, I thought this would make a great abstracted painting, with lots of movement, color complements, and contrasts. This 9×12 acrylic will probably be the predecessor to a larger version in the near future!

This is an older painting that I hadn’t seen for awhile, so I decided to pull it up to the top. Every once in awhile, it’s good to look back. 🙂

This little brook runs behind my house, from its source on the lake to the reservoir. It is the favorite hunting ground of this Great Blue Heron, who is never far away, and often perched on our lawn as you see him here, enjoying his latest meal. It sure was hard to paint him tiny enough to be in scale in this small painting! This was a test drive for a larger version that I’m considering.

Taking Flight oil painting

This large oil painting is based on an acrylic sketch I did a couple of months ago. I had taken a photo of a Great Blue Heron while my husband and I were out on North Lake in a rowboat. I had seen the heron fly around a peninsula from a distance. When we rounded the bend in the lake, I was ready with my camera, and captured the Great Blue just as he was taking off. He became silhouetted against the bright, peach-colored background, which brought out the blues in his coloring.

You can see the acrylic sketch here. (The smaller sketch is also for sale.) I wanted to maintain the loose, spontaneous feel and the motion in the larger painting. Since there is more space to fill, I gave the rocks along the shoreline and the tree trunks more definition than in the sketch.

Here’s an image of the oil painting that you can click on for a larger view:

This oil painting has been sitting on my easel unfinished since before the holidays. It was so nice to get back to it several times in the past week and finish it up! I can’t wait to see this one in a frame.

This inquisitive giraffe was painted from one of the photos I took this past week at the Bronx Zoo. (You can see my sketches of the giraffes done at the zoo at this link.) I’ve really fallen in love with their beautifully expressive faces and graceful movements. Maybe I’ll do a few larger paintings of them too. They sure do seem to fit this tall format!

I was painting by a pond one day and these adorable ducks were following me around everywhere! They posed for a number of fabulous photos, which begged to be painted. I thought this one would make a great holiday gift, so I painted it as a long format miniature. It can be set on its easel on a tabletop or mantle, or hung on a wall. Since it’s on gallery wrapped canvas and painted on all sides, it doesn’t need a frame.

This is painted from a photo I took on a morning with an amazing sunrise. I saw the turquoise and pink sky, threw on my jeans, shirt and coat, and dashed out to the lakeshore to take pictures. At 16×20, this is a nice size for that special wall. In spite of the brilliant colors, it has that wonderfully serene feel to it that only a spectacular sunrise can bring.

I must be feeling a little better today, because I was somehow able to summon the energy to trudge down to the studio and do this portrait of Lulu, one of my Jenday Conures. We have five parrots here, but Lulu prides herself on being the biggest troublemaker of them all. She loves to sit on my shoulder, where she constantly picks at my shirt collar or hair, and I have to wrestle my eyeglasses away from her! It’s hard to get angry with her when she turns around and says, “Kiss?”

I had picked up a few long/tall format frames, and they turned out to be perfect for this painting of Lulu, so this painting is available framed!

I couldn’t resist showing Lulu her portrait. She thinks it makes her appear too sophisticated. I think I’ll have to do another with her doing some of her usual bratty antics!

Many thanks to Rodney and Tamara Money for the photo reference of their adorable bird. BeBe won top bench placement in the African Lovebird Society Pet Writing Contest just a few weeks ago. He is a Dutch Blue Pied Peach-faced Lovebird. Rodney and Tamara are lovebird breeders in North Carolina. You can check out the cute arrivals at their website. Rodney is also a composer, so it’s not surprising that BeBe is playing a piano concerto.

I probably don’t need to tell you how much fun it was to work on this painting, but I do think my lovebird, Mango, got a little jealous.

Swinging on the Porch

Not For Sale

This is my little buddy Mango. He loves to swing on just about anything. Here he is on his playset swing out on the porch, doing what he does best. He’ll be a year old next week. Maybe I’ll have to do an annual portrait of him. Mango loves to sit on my shoulder in the studio, but he’s not allowed down there when I’m working in oils. This one is currently not for sale because…well….because he’s my lil baby! Besides, there are still one or two little things I need to tweak in the painting.
